Michael has an extensive career with executive leadership roles in multi-national corporations as well as founding his own businesses and building an expertise in management consulting and sales training. Early corporate roles include head of sales, sales leadership, and general management for corporations such as Dunlop-Slazenger, Hanimex, and Taubmans before going on to start-up his own small businesses.
In the past 20-years Michael has delivered over 200 sales training programs around the world, with such companies as AON in Singapore and Hong Kong, IBM in Brazil and China, Google in Hawaii and Sydney, NRI FinTech in India, Avery Dennison in Sri Lanka and Mincom in Brisbane and Chile. He has worked extensively with a wide range of SMBs throughout Australia, New Zealand, India ,and South East Asia including providing service as a strategic management consultant with various SMBs in Australia.
Michael’s early experience with the small-to-medium business sector started as Owner of ML Sporting Goods. Founded in the 1980s as a family-business with 10 staff and $3 million revenue. Two decades later, Michael founded Skills Farm with 8 staff and 2 consultants to deliver $5 million revenue. His experience in the highs and lows of managing every aspect of small business is invaluable.
Recently Michael completed a 20-month engagement as a consultant, which resulted in the successful turnaround of a small family business. Losses of over $200,000 in FY18, improved to breakeven in FY19 and over $300,000 profit in FY20. This was achieved by leading the re-invention of every aspect of the company’s business. From changing the product range and the market offering, to reducing the inventory holding, closing a retail presence, challenging the sales and marketing approach, helping with the financial management, and most importantly helping to rebuild the belief, confidence and morale of the family members, and the owners. Michael is strong, positive, encouraging, challenging, dedicated and empathetic and is passionate about supporting SMBs to achieve successful business growth.
